Right in the heart
of the Alt Empordà, the picturesque village Vilamaniscle
is surrounded from the green belt of the Albera
Mountains. On clear days one can see from here to the bay of L'Escala
and yet the peaks of Pyrenees appear near enough to be touched. Often
the visible peaks remain covered by snow until May.
The village Vilamaniscle remain in both summer and winter a place to rest
and rejuvenate. The streets are all short; there is not any main street
traffic. The narrow lanes of the village force even cars to move at a
walking speed. Around the Village nature beckons, numerous hiking trails
invite us to short walks and extensive excursions.
In spite of the
idyllic situation among nature the coastal towns of the Costa Brava are
only few kilometres away, with their beaches and their tourist infrastructure.
Llançà is only 11 kilometres away; Roses or Empuriabrava
are only slightly further toward the east. To the west is the capital
of Figueres with its shopping possibilities and an extraordinary cultural
offer: About one million visitors visit each only to visit the world-famous
Dalí museum.
Between the village and Figueres is the neighbouring medieval village
of Peralada with its own unique attractions: a well-maintained golf course,
a museum and a game casino. The music festival Peralada occurs in the
summer with a mixture of classical and modern music. The festival is among
the most renowned music festivals of Spain.
For a select few the small, intimate holiday plant Patio El Penell (penell = the weathercock) is the ideal holiday residence. The heart of the estate, the inner court built in the Andalusia style, ceremonially fits the name Patio. Here a separate zone is identified for every one of the 6 apartments, with plenty of space for chairs and tables. In the Patio a small fountain laps among green plants, the temperature in the shadow is always pleasant here and in the hot summer it is up to ten degrees cooler in the Patio.
On the large sun terrace, also with separate zones for every apartment,
you can enjoy a wonderful unobstructed view in all directions.
The Patio
El Penell was formerly a well-known restaurant. Three years ago
the estate was completely renovated and the apartments around the "Patio"
were added. These are all next to each other in the first floor: 3 apartments
for 2 persons with living-bedroom, kitchen and shower and toilet; and
3 apartments for 4 persons, these are equipped identically but have an
additional bedroom.
In all apartments there is satellite television and, some time even more
important, central heating. The climate is mild here, but in the late
autumn and winter there are also times when you will be glad you have
central heating.
