Only a few kilometres away from Figueres, Dali’s home town, and from the beaches of Costa Brava, Cal Governador is also close to various natural parks (volcanic zone of Garrotxa, aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Albera mountain range, cap de Creus, Medes Islands…). Megalithic ruins in Roses and surroundings (30 kms), Roman and Greek ruins in Empúries (25 kms) the interesting and rich town of Girona, with its magnificient cathedral, the Jewish quarter, its narrow streets and shops…The area is also priviledged with a world-known cuisine (Ferran Adrià, best cook in the world, has his restaurant "El Bulli" in Roses).
For those who like sports, the area offers also a wide range of possibilities: golf, horse riding, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, paragliding, skidiving, skiing…
- Borrassà: 500 inhabitants, a farming and husbandry village; its Church-tower is the highest of 'Alt Emporda'. It has many big mansion houses, 2 supermarkets, a tabacconist, a butcher's shop, a chemist's shop and restaurants. The communal hall and bar.
- Navata: 6 km. Golf, fitness club, restaurant, ...
- Figueres: 6 km. Capital of the county and very buzzing cultural centre. The famous Dali Museum, Toy Museum and 'Empordà' Museum, plus cinemas, theatres and restaurants.
- Perelada: 26 km. Casino, golf, medieval town centre.
- San Pere de Roda: 30 km. Romanesque monastery and a exceptional view of the gulf of Roses and of the 'Cap de Creus'
- Besalú: 12 km. Delightful medieval village.
- Banyoles: 25 km. Olympic sailing sub-head-office.
