| The fact that an "ave
de is paso" is a migratory bird may be understood by those with
an understanding of Spanish speaking, but more perplexing is, where
is the location of Fortia? Although the small place enjoys an extremely
favourable strategic location, right in the middle of the Empordà
plain between the gulf of Roses and the nature park Aiguamolls,
it is the rare tourist who wanders into the village. It is geographically
located exactly in the centre of the triangle Figueres – Roses - Sant
Pere Pescador. Fortia, with its almost 500 inhabitants has always relied
on agriculture, a few small urbanisations have also attracting some new
settlers who are attracted to the village’s location and peaceful
setting. And a few knowledgeable connoisseurs have found their way to the
two restaurants of the village. |

In the year 2003
the artist couple Regina and Franz van de Geenen opened their hotel ave
de paso. Once themselves migratory birds, she as an actress, he
as a musician, they transformed a former artists studio into a completely
new hotel.
In contra point to the character of the rather rural Fortia the hotel
is a mixture of modern, comfortable elegance and intimate atmosphere. |

The exterior
of the hotel adapts well to the rural character of the environment,
with its Mediterranean plants, the swimming pool and the garden furniture,
which invites to "Spanish nights."
The
rooms are very roomy, all with direct access to a small garden. The furniture
is of first-class design, as are the mattresses - not unimportant to the
visitor – everything is first quality. Each room has its own bathroom,
telephone and television. |

| The hotel, rather a “Hotelito”
with only a few rooms, is an ideal place for holidaymakers who are seeking
some peace away from the frenetic pace of the coast, but who wants to be
close enough to be able to experience the excitement of Costa Brava. |

| Empuriabrava,
Roses, Sant Pere Pescador
and the district capital Figueres
with its rich cultural offerings are very close, and can be reached quickly
and comfortably. Also, Cadaqués,
Llançà or Port
de la Selva are only few kilometres away. The surroundings can be explored
comfortably by bicycle, which are offered by the hotel. |

Breakfast is served
until 12 o'clock. The ave de paso is opened all year; in the colder season
it is heated with solar energy.
The hotel Ave de Paso can be rented in its entirety as a private holiday
house on a week by week basis. The reduced prices include limited hotel
service from Saturday until Saturday. Children are welcome. The hotel
capacity is 8 to 10 persons.
